EDUCATION BOARD.
SIR WILLIAM RUSSELL’S PROPOSAL. '(Special to Times.) Napier, last night. At tho Education Board it was decided that Giaborno parents of scholarship holders willing to accept XI 16s bo asked to sign a letter to that effect. A request by tho Gisborne High School governors that an additional grant of £3 8s each be made was refused. Mororo shelter shed to bo erected at a cost of £l6, tho Committee to pay half. Waerenga-a hika. —Mr. Quigley to report on the application for a fence. Awanui’s application for a grant for foncing and draining was hold over for further information. Mr Lewis wus appointed instructor of the Gisborno teachers’ drill classes.
Sir William Russell, referring to the necessity for important works through the district, said ho thought it was time the Board should take a firm stand and inform tho Government that unless they were provided with adequate funds they must decline to carry on at all. Tho Chairman (Mr T. Tanner) said that no doubt something of tho kind should be done, but so far the Board had not had tho pluck to do it. Sir William added that it seemed to him tho Board should resign in a body unioss their representations had proper attention. Tho matter was then allowed to drop.
