ROWING.

[Notes By “ Reefor.”J

Tho representative race botweon tho junior crews of tho Poverty Bay Club and tho Gisborne Club will bo rowed to-mor-row evening, tho former crew being strokod by J. Smith, and tho latter by H. Bright. The raeo will bo a milo and a distance, and is oxpected to bo very keenly contested. Smith has stroked representative crows on other occasions, but from what I understand this is Bright’s first year as stroke. Both crows will meet representative crews from Napior at the end of tho week, and I am sure onr juniors will make a strong effort to uphold Gisborno’s reputation in tho “ athletic world.” Gishounk Cluj:. H. Bright (stroke) : This is his first year to stroke a representative crew. Ho is in fairly good form, and should row a brilliant race. J. Wauchop (3) has “ tho tenacity of ft bulldog,” and is in the best of condition. This is his first year in our rowing circles, but ho has proved himself fairly skilful with the oar, and I have no doubt will, with a little more experience, prove himself to bo a capable oarsman. C. B. Do Lautour (2) has had good experience, pulls a nice oar, and, I am certain, will do his part in good stylo. G. Nolan (bow): This is his first year as a ropresentativo, and therefore he lacks experience. Nevertheless he is very reliable, and will play his part in stylo when called upon.

Poverty Bay. J. S. Smith (stroke) has tho imputation of a high-class oarsman, pulls a pretty stroke, grafts in good style, and will no doubt prove himself a champion in the forthcoming contest. His judgment is good, and ho strokes his crow in a firstclass manner. A. Pool (3) has made the best of his long spell of training, and pulls a very fair oar. A. Pritchard (2) is in fairly good form, but does not pull a nice oar. A. Kirk (bow) is well known in rowing circles, is in good form, and should do good work.
