WAIPIRO RACES.
There was a largo attendance at tho Waipiro Racing Club’s annual meeting, and an excellent day’s sport was obtained. In the Maiden Mr J. Thornton’s Dolly Grey, who was ridden by J. Cudd, won with ease all tho way. In the Tawhiti Cup Yacca had an easy win. The rider, G. Cudd, who is noted as ono of the best jockeys of tho district at getting quickly off tho mark, got Y'acca away about a chain before his opponents. Mechanic made a challenge for victory in the early part of the race, but could not catch Mr Ivatene’s chestnut gelding. The Pony Raco was won with ease by Mr H. Maliuika’s Rereata, ridden by T. Reedy. Tho Flying was won by Mr J. J. Fry s Local Option. This was the chief race of tho flay. A
field of 11 started, and the group looked very pretty when the sun shone on the horses and riders as they went up the beach to the starting post. Mr Mcllroy managed to get them all away to a very fair start, and the field was well bunched for about half a mile, when Local Option and Mechanic drew away and began to fight out the finish. The weight was too much for Mechanic, who could not beat Mr Fry’s gelding in the latter part of the journey. In the District Welter Tynedale ! broke down, and Mr T. Iteedy's Waiapu therefore had an easy win, followed by Maori Boy, The Farewell Handicap was j won by Mr Fry’s Local Option, after a very good race, Signet being second. The race was run at almost dark, and the judge could just manage to distinguish the winning horse. The day passed oil very well. There was no disturbances, and a bigger crowd has never before been known at a race meeting at Waipiro. The Ciub did its utmost to see that straightforward racing was done.
