FITZGERALD’S CIRCUS.
Preparations are now well advanced towards completion for the opening of the above circus and menagerie. Reports from north and south are of the most encouraging character. The cycle whizz seems to keep the audiences in good humor ; exciting and spectacular acts are the rule throughout show, and one or two striking pictures are (seen among the new horse acts. Tho menagerie is also one of good class. The performing animal acts from Hagenback’s zoological circus, under the trainership of Herr Zaph, are of the most finishod character. There is also 'to be some sensational tumbling during the season, the artists coming to this country with a world’s record of revolutions, and so far have fully maintained their superiority. Sensational riding is also a feature in the show. The show has the largest spread of canvas yet seen in New Zealand, and can be classed with anything of its kind to be seen on the Continent,
Since their last visit here they have added to their show many new articles, and the latest attractions from all parts of the globe, novelties, sensations, and brilliant items are introduced that have lifted the arenic specialties to the highest standard. The Messrs Fitzgerald Brothers recently concluded a successful season in Melbourne extending three months. Among the new items are the cycle whizz, an exceedingly novel device which has created a great sensation throughout Australia. The construction is one of the most novel sensations ever introduced, and one which is sure to attract large audiences in New Zealand, as in the colonies of the Commonwealth.. - The act is performed by the four Melbournss, who mount their bicycles, ride from the ground on to a teacup track at an angle of 60deg., and 80 laps to the mile, where they manoeuvre through different antics, racing, trick riding, passing, re-passiDg, carrying with the greatest of ease, andjthe act is'described by the press and public as being a most extraordinary feat. The new addition to the arena of a sextette of beautiful black Hungarian horses, who go through evolutions equal trained !are spoken of as being superb, and in the capable hands of Mr Ban Fitzgerald can be looked forward to with interest. Hadji Tabar, the Arab Wonder, a most marvellous contortionist ; Madame Amelia, ariel wonder on the trapeze and swinging rope ; the Leons, four in number, the world's tumblers, riders, acrobats, etc., doing sensational tumbling, can only be compared to pieces of machinery. The South African y/fi r episode introduces the war horse St. Justthis isj,one of the finest trained horses ever known. They have the smallest horse in the world. For variety and excellence the show deserves a large patronage. The show will open on Monday next, April 20th, for a limited season.
