THE WAGES TROUBLE,

Received 5.30 pan., May 3. Sydney, May 3. A reprosentativo meeting of miners nf Noweastlo district discussed the proposed reduction of prico in coul and othor important quostions. Tho speeches were temperate, and urged reference of tho reduction question to tho Arbitration Court, with whose administration considerable fault was found. They strongly contended that the present trade conditions did not require a reduction iu the prico of coal. Resolutions were adopted endorsing the action of tho delegate to tho Board, ’’requesting tho Premier to call Parliament together to amend the Goal Mines Act, provide for minerals boing woighed in skips and payment of miners by weight ; that the meeting viewed with surprise and indignation tho action oi a section of tho Colliery Proprietors’ Association in attempting to enforo a reduction of the hewing rate for tho present year which was fixed by agreement, and expressing dissatisfaction at the constitution of the Arbitration Board ; also urging Government to amend tho Act so as to havo vurious Courts lor settlement of disputes In different industries.
