STEAMER ASHORE.

Tho small coastal steamer Mokau went ashore on Friday morning a rnilo and a half north of the Manawatu bar. Her cargo of coal has been jettisoned, but the steamer is still on the beach. Several attempts by steamers to tow her off have failed. FOOTBALL ACCIDENT. In tho football match between teams of the Weraroa Club, of Levin, and Palmerston Club, on Saturday, jv- member of tho former team, J. Baker, fractured his leg just above the ankle. Ho had kicked the ball high, and in attempting to smother it fell, the accident occurring either through his leg twisting or the peculiar manner in which he fell.
