HOTEL LICENSES.

Cr Henderson at tho meetiug of th° Waiapu County Council said that Mr CButlor, licensee of the Rose Hotel, Port Awanui, was putting shingle on the road leading to his hotol, and ho wanted the Council to contribute £5 towards the cost.

Tho Clerk stated that tho Awanui publicaus paid £25 each for thoir licenses, and others on tho coast £2O each, whilst ono licensee only paid £2 10s. Cr Knox remarked that tho Waipiro houso should pay £SO. Tho Chairman asked tho Engineor if he knew how much work was being done by Mr Butler, and in reply Mr O'Ryan stated that Mr Butler was doing over DlO worth of work. Cr Henderson pointod out that the Council had contributed towards work douo by Mr J. Smith on another occasion. Cr Knox said tho road was not an approach to tho hotel, but part of tho public road ; it was used for other purposes than for going to the used for going to tho post-office and elsewhere.
