The President of the Arbitration Court, in giving judgment on tho appeal lodged by tho Wellington Shipmasters’ Association against the decision of tho Registrar of Industrial Unions refusing to register the Association us no industrial union, said that the Court unar.iiuuusly agrood that tho interests uf the officers and tho masters of ships widely differed m many respects, and timt it was more convenient frw the latter to form a union of their own and become registered than to bo compelled to join tfio Officers’ Association. Tho fact that the constitution of tho Officers’ Association prevented masters taking anything but a nominal part in the transactions of the Society was a second reason for separata registration. Tno refusal of tho Registrar would have to bo waived. His Honor said the Court would require time to consider tho point whether tho appellant association should not havo applied for registration as employers. SHAKESPEItLAN READINGS.
