TECHNICAL GLASSES.

TO 15E STARTED THIS WEEK. A most successful meeting in connection with tho proposed technical classes was held at tho Gisborne School Inst evening, there being present the teachers appointed for the several subjects, the members of the School Committee, and a large number of intending pupils. Mr J. W. Bright, Chairman of the Cominittr.c, complimented the teachers and pupi ■ ou tho great amount of enthusiasm that wa being shown, and predicted that the classes would prove most successful. The classes were then divi ltd. end the nights for tho several subjects were arranged.

The class for mechanical drawing will be held each Wednesday evening at 7.80. under the instruction of Mi K. Humphreys. Eight pupils have already enrolled. On Thursday evenings tho class for mathematics and higher arithmetic will ho under the instruction of Mr A. Crawford. Mine pupils have enrolled, and it is expected that a number of others will do •so too.

Only five pupils have so far joined the English class, which will bo under tl-e supervision of Mr .J. Wauchnp, end be held on Thursday evenings at 7 o'clock. Tho dressmaking classes will be held on Monday evening at 7 :JO, and will be under the supervision of Miss Alien. Nineteen pupils have enrolled for this class. Tho subjects of book keeping and short- I hand appear to be as popular as ever, there being twenty pupils for each class. Tho shorthand class will bo held each Monday at 7 o'clock, under the supervision of Mr J. V. McDonald, whilst the book-keeping classes will bo held on Tuesday evenings at 7 o’clock, under the instruction of Mr Kinder.

Everything points tn tho classes being a great success, and tlx: thanks of the public uro due to the members of tho Gisborne School Committee for tho great interest they have displayed in the matter. It is hoped that now tho classes are formed and in working order, tho .young men and women of tho district will take advantage of the opportunities afforded of receiving instruction in the several branches of knowledge previously mentioned.
