WATER.
'(To the Editor, Gisborne Times.),
Sir, —As the supporters of Waihirere are twitting others with having changed views on this water question, might I ask you to kindly add the following to the letter list:—
Gisborne Borough Council Water Com. mittee’s report on Waihirere water scheme for £24,662. . . . etc.
They are also of opinion after well considering the carefully prepared report of the Bofough Engineer that water in sufficient quantities could not be obtained from the Waihirere source, at a cheaper rate than the one mentioned. Taking these facts into consideration your committee are of opinion that attention should be directed towards the Waimata river in the hopes that a less expensive scheme for obtaining a water supply may be found practicable, etc. (Sgd.) J. Townee?, Chairman. The above freport is dated 16th May, 1881, and the original is now to be seen in the Borough Council’s office. The above speaks for itself. —I am, etc.,
W. DougiiAs Lyshab,
