LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. The Legislative Council has decided . to take the ballot for the election of Speaker on Thursday, with closed dqors. The debate on the Address-in-Reply was advanced another stage. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. The House met at 2.30. The afternoon was devoted to further debate on the Address-in-Reply the speakers being Messrs Parata (whe protested against Mahuta being called to the Executive Council). Kirkbride (who spoke strongly in favor of freehold), E. Witty, and Hcrbman. In the House at 7.30 p.m. the debate on the Address-in-Reply was carried on, the speakers being Messrs- James Allen, Laureuson, Lewis, and Davey. Tho House rose at 11.30.
