DRUIDS' SOCIAL.

A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING.

The Theatre Boyal was last evening the scene of a bright and attractive gathering on the occasion of the annual social in connection with the Turanganui Lodge of Druids. The function was in every respect a most enjoyable one, and by far the greatest success achieved by the Lodge. There was a large and representative attendance of town and country people, upwards of 150 couples being present. The decorations were oarried out under the supervision of Mr G. Dartonf which was a sufficient guarantee that everything was done on first-class lines. Seldom has the interior of the theatre presented such a pleasing appearance. Long lines of flags and bannerettes ran the length of the hall, whilst there was a profusion of evergreens round the room, with mirrors here and there to add relief. A feature of the decorations was a life-sized figure of an Arch Druid prominently displayed on a platform over the entrance, aud numerous other emblems were to be seen on every side. The floor was in 1 good order for dancing, and excellent music was supplied by Mrs Fernandez (piauo) and Cowley ‘(cornet), whilst a number of extras were tastefully played by Miss Moore. The arrangements for supper were carried out by Mr J. Craig, who left nothing wanting on that score. Bros. T. J. Spiers, C. Nield, A. Sawyer, aud R. Johnston were the M.C.’s, whilst the general committee included the following Bros. W. 0. Skeet, C. Nieid, W. Ardoru, D. McKeague, J. Georgeson, L. P. Bullen, F. Atdern, T. J. Spiers, J. C. Griffin, W. Attwood, G. Peterson, and li. T. Seymour. Special praise is due to Bro. J. A. Eaton, the energetic secretary, for his efforts to forward the success of the gathering. A programme of twenty-four dances was gone through, dancing being kept up until three o’clock this morning.
