The Council met at 2.30. The Hon. W. C. Walker was elected Speaker on the first ballot, obtaining 25 votos against 11 seoured by the Sir H. J, Miller. . 1
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
The House met at 2.30. Further progress was made with tho debate on the Address in-Reply, thespeakers being Messrs Tanner, Fowlds, Tii«, J. c.«n™.oo. 1 M . ao . ghl The House resumed at 7.30. Tho principal speakers in to night’s debate wore Sir William Russell and Sir Joseph Wdrd. The former inado a strong onaek on tbo railway administration, Sir Joseph Ward replying. Sir Joseph Ward ftlso stated that it was not proposed to interfere with the freehold as it now existed. Otboj? .'speakers wore Mossrs Bonnet and Remington.
