Association, NAPIER, last night. .The oldest shop in Hastings street, (occupied by Newton and Co., grocers, the Kaiapoi Woollen Company,Bennett , and Querie, tailors, and the London Dental Company) was destroyed by fire this evening. The fire broke out just before midnight, but- must have been burning for some time .previously, as when the flames broke out the whole of the upper story of the building .was in a blaze.
Practically nothing was saved of Newton and Co.’s and the Kaiapoi Woollen Company’s stock, and very little from the others.
