A fearful explosion occurred in the busiest part of the city yesterday, where hundreds of people assembled on hearing a loud report, j A tinsmith was putting a tap it an iron alcohol drum without reinaving the bung. The drum exploded decapitating the tinsmith, whose head was blown several feet away.
The chief engineer of the steamer France, who was watching with ‘his eighteen-year-old son, was blown several feet away ; the former had his face blown out, and the latter was badly injured—it is feared both fatally.
