MUNICIPAL POLITICS. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, last night.; A’ deputation from the New Zealand Socialist party waited upon the Trades and Labor Council, to urge upon that body the desirability of taking an active interest in the forthcoming municipal elections. The .Council resolved to do so, and a sub-committee was formed to draft a platform, with a view to acting in conjunction .with the Socialist party.
STEAMER TAKES GROUND. NEW PLYMOUTH,' last night.
The Union Company’s s.s. .Takapuna took the ground when entering the harbor shortly after eight this morning. It was dead low waterspring tides—with a heavy northerly roll. The steamer grounded on, a sandy bottom; and • became unmanageable, hut, when the tide made, she got off, and steamed alongside the wharf,, at about eleven o’clock It is- believed that no damage was done.
LEGISLATORS ' 'AT STRATFORD, STRATFORD, last night. The foundation stone of the Stratford Technical School was laid yesterday liy the Hon. C. H.f Mills, Minister of Customs. There was a large assemblage of visitors from all parts of the province. Addresses were given by the Minister, Chairman of the Taranaki Education Board, and leading men of the province. The Minister was entertained by the citizens at a banquet last night! It was a great success. He remains all to-morrow, and possibly; the Parliamentary party, visiting INew Plymouth with-Mr E. M. Smith will break their journey, here tonight.'

WAGES CASE. HOKITIKA, last night
The Conciliation Board, with the Rev. Mr Gregg, President, and Messrs Kettle, McKay, and Coppersmith present, has been sitting at Rimu for the past two days hearing a dispute of the Rimu Gold Miners Industrial Union and the claim of the owners. The Board awarded payment at the rate of 9s 6d per day for 31- days or less ; for aweek or over, 9s a day, overtime, Is 6d per hour ; preference to be given to unionists.
