EMBEZZLEMENT.
(Per Press Association.) WANGANUI, last night. Further serious embezzlements ol the Municipal Opera House moneys have been discovered, and the Mayor has written to the Audit Department to send up an officer to investigate the matter. During the financial year ended March last, a third of the total takings were unaccounted for, and instead of there oeing a profit of £I6G, as reported on the year’s working after paying interest and sinking fund, besides all expenses, there should have been a profit of something like £4OO, thus demonstrating that a municipal opera house is a good paying concern. The ex-manager, Priestly, lias- been committed to trial on several ekSfrges of defalcations, 'amounting tcP> between £3OO and £4OO.
