WHATAUPOKO POUND.

)To the Editor Gisborne Times.)

Sir, —In your report of the last meeting of the Whataupoko Road Board mention was made of a complaint made by the Messrs Reynolds as to charges and my “conduct” as poundkeeper. Unfortunately for me it will be three weeks before the Board deals with my answer to the complaint. Meanwhile tho report that has appeared has been productive of comments on my supposed “ conduct ” as poundkeeper that call for an immediate and emphatic denial of the suggestion that it has been in any respect inconsistent with my duty. That is my object in writing this letter. I deny that I have conducted myself in such a way as to justify in the slightest degree Messrs Reynolds’ action, and I desire to express my resentment at the course which they have seen fit to follow. - My version of the matter will be given to the Board at its next meeting, and I am content to abide by the Board’s view of anything I may have done.

Doubtless the public press is not the place in which to ventilate one’s private grievances. But the report of this matter in your columns (the accuracy of which I do not question) has cast a stigma on my character, and I cannot allow three weeks to pass without saying something about the matter. In fairness to me I ask you to publish this, letter, and at the same time ask any of your readers who are interested to suspend judgment until the Board meets. —I am, &e., A. R. Wyllie. [Whatever thes merits of the case in question may be, we are assured by Whataupoko residents that the streets have never been so well kept before in regard to stray stock as under Mr Wyllie’s control. —Ed.
