In the Supremo Court, James Wilson, who pleaded guilty to burglary at Lucas Creek, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment. On Saturday afternoon tho Governor attended a meeting at Queen Victoria School for Maori girls, at which the methods of training and the object aimed at wore explained. Addresses were given by Lord Ranfurly, Bishop Neligan, Mrs Neligan, and Canon McMurray. A large demonstration, organised by the friendly societies, was held on Saturday afternoon in aid of the Veterans’ Home. The procession was witnessed by a large crowd. The great drill hall was filled to the doors, when addresses were delivered by His Excellency tho Governor, Bishop Neligan, Anglican Bishop of Auckland, Father Paterson,’ and Mr. McLeod (Chairman of the Friendly Societies’ Conference). In concluding his address, Bishop Neligan made feeling reference to that great statesman, the late Pope, and expressed his sympathy with the Roman Catholic Church in their great loss. The collection amounted to about £SO. His Excellency goes back to Wellington by the West Coast to-day. Ho will spend a few days in Wellington, and then go on to Christchurch. There ho will be the guest of Mr and Mrs Arthur G. Rhodes, and he will attend the races during his stay. Lord Northland accompanies his Excellency on his trip south. The difficulty with the crew of tho Mary L. Cushing has now beon settled, three Auckland men having signed on in place of those who had desired to leave. The ship will probably resume her voyags to Honolulu on Tuesday, Consul-General Dillingham states that New Zealand will bo represented at the St. Louis Exposition in 1904, the Executive having accepted the offer of the Exposition management of free space if the colony provide Commissioners and an exhibit; ■
