A WATERSPOUT.
(Per R.H.S. Sonoma at Auckland.) San Francisco, July 16.
At Oakford Park, Pennsylvania, on July 5, a waterspout descended upon a large party of [pleasure-seekers, killing at least 20 persons and destroying much property. Bain began falling heavily at the Park in the afternoon, and picnickers crowded into the cars, the dancing pavilion, and other places of amusement. Men became aware of the danger of a wall of water coming down from the lake above, but had literally to drive the pleasure-seekers from their plaoes of refuge and to the adjoining hillsides. Half an hour later the water was sft deep in all these now deserted buildings, and the few heroes of the occasion were vindicated. The disaster was on a small scale, but waß similar to that whioh destroyed the town of Johnstown less than a score of years ago, costing thousands of livis,
