£Per Press Association^ Wellington, last night. The gold export for July was 55,9020 z, valued at £216,578, as against 47,0510 z, valued at £184,594 in July of last year. The new twin screw steamer Suffolk, 7317 tons gross register, a sister steamer to the Essex, will follow the latter on the berth for South Africa, loading at the Bluff, Timaru, Lyttelton, and Wellington. The Seamen’s Federated Union of Australasia, Wellington branch, passed a resolution condemning Mr Chamberlain’s preferential trade proposals, a,nd protesting against any action of the New Zealand Government to increase tho tariff on foreign goods, though agreeable to a reduction of the tariff on British goods. The Council of the Northern Bowling Association has accepted an invitation to hold the next tournament at Auckland, the suggested date of opening being January 11th next. Play will be on the same lines as at the 1902 tournament for interclub matches. Representation will be limited to two rinks from each club. A suggestion as to the formation of oneAssociation for the whole of the colony has been favorably received, and remitted to the delegates of the North and South Associations.
