FARMERS’ UNION.

(To the Editor Gisborne Times.)

Sir,—A short letter appoared from me in your columns of July 23, my solo object in writing was to obtain a definition of the word farmer, as applied to members of tho Farmers’ Union, and with that object in view I referred very pointedly to ouo officer, as very gravo doubts exist as to his possessing the necessary qualifications of membership. Any member asked, including some of tho executive of country branches, “what is a farmer?” cannot defino such, but will refer you to a book of tho rules which every intending member has not tho opportunity of perusing, and

I must say if some of tho members aro duly qualified, then tho wnrd farmer has a very wide scope. In the event of no attempt being made to clear tho matter up through your columns, will some farmer kindly introduce tho subject at tho meeting ol the Farmers’ Union on Saturday ? It is a matter that affects the vitality of tho organisation, and a little hoalthy discussion might tend to make those responsible a little more careful in enrolling members. —I am, etc.. A Farmer.
