' The Union Company's s.s. Herald (Capt. Chrisp) arrived from Auckland and Coast bays late Wednesday night, and left’for Napier at 640 last evening. Inward passengers : Miss Downey, Mrs Blaoklaw, Messrs Burton and Haines. The sohooner Awanui (Capt. Nioholas) left for Mercury Bay at 2 p.m. yesterday. The schooner Aotea (Capt. Skinner) sailed for Coast ports and Auckland at 3.45 p.m. yesterday. The schooner Waiapu sails for Coast ports and Auckland this afternoon. The Fanny arrives from Napier this morning. The Union Company’s Mararoa arrives from Southern ports and leaves for Auckland and Sydney at 10 o’clock to morrow morning. On • Sunday afternoon the Tarawera arrives from Auckland, and leavos for Southern ports at 5 p.m. The steamer Balmain (Capt. W. Troup) left Sydney on Friday, July 24th, arriving at Newcastle at 3.40 that afternoon, and took in cargo. On Saturday, 25th, she left for Gisborne via Whangarei, the weather being thick, together with a strong easterly and heavy seas, which continued until Monday, after which N.W. and W. were experienced until 30th, when strong N.E. and E. winds and considerable head seas and heavy rain again were contended with until Sunday, August 2nd. The Three Kings were sighted at 9 p.m. on Saturday, August Ist, and the steamer arrived at Whangarei at 3.45 p.m. on Monday last and anchored outside. Next morning she proceeded up the river to the wharf and took in bunker ooals. At 5.40 p.m. she left for Gisborne, and on going down the river when the tide was falling got stuck on a bank, where she remained until tho next tide. She arrived in the
roadstead at 11.15 a.m., and at 2.40 p.m. Dr Williams, Chief Health Officer, wont aboard and granted pratique. The vessel immediately entered the river, and until arrival opposite the wharf had a successful passage, when she got on a bank, but after a small amount of trouble was got safely alongside the wharf. Her cargo consists of 400 tons of coal. UNION STEAM SHIP COMPANY’S MOVEMENTS, Saturday, Bth. Mararoa arrives from South, and leaves for Auckland and Sydney.
