NUHAKA NORTH.
A 1 meeting of the Nuhaka branch’ I of the New Zealand Farmer’ Union was held in the Morere, schoolroom on Saturday, Ist August. Mr A. Proudlock presided. The minutes of the prior' meeting were, read and I confirmed. After considerable dis- j cussion on various local matters, it I was proposed by Mr Proudlock, se- j cbnded by Mr 11. Mclntyre, and parried : “ That the Wairoa County. Council be requested to authorise ■their Engineer to report upon the possibility of improving the grade at Shaw’s I-lill, by deviating through Mr S, Black’s property.” It was proposed by Mr Mclntyre, and seconded illy Mr E, Coop, that the Wairoa County Coumcil be requested to have some improvements effected at the Tunanui crossing, and also have some necessary protective works erected for the purpose of keeping the river from damaging the road in time of floods. It was proposed by
Mr Stewart, and seconded by Mr I McKain, and carried, that the Wai- j roa County Council he requested to I have Jefferson’s cutting metalled, j ■and that a portion of the proceeds 1 from the sale of the Ferry Reserve I be used to defray the cost if no oth- I er funds arc available. It was pro- 1 posed by Mr Proudlock, and second- 1 ed byl Mr J. Joblin, that the Gov- 1 ernment be asked to definitely state 1 theijp ■ intention reVatijug to the;con- I slruction of a road through Walker’s paddocks, or whether it is their iptention to build a bridge at Stewart's crossing, as promised by the I Minister of Lands. It was proposed by Mr Cooper, and seconded Ky Mr Proudlock, and carried, that the Tecretary write to the Union Steam Ship Company, and ascertain i! they will make Waikokopu a port of call mill their coasting boats ; Mr Common to be written to on a similar subject. Xe was resolved that the Inspector of Stock be informed that blackberry and brier are becoming a nuisance in the neighborhood of Mo* rere, , . .
