Per Press Association. Auckland, last night. UCho gold returns from Auckland district for the past three weeks have reaohed a total of £28,116, The absence of the Waihi Gold Mining Company’s returns accounts for the apparent fallingoff. Had the result from tho company’s clean-up been available for inclusion, the output for the period would have constituted a record, since returns from other properties give a higher general result than usual. The total value of bullion won from the Northern fields this year to date is £541,fi63. It is feared that an Auckland laborer, Thomas Walsh, has been drowned at Pahi. Walsh went to Pahi about three months ago, and was employed upon a roadmaking contract. He has been missing since Thursday night, and the police telegraphed to Auckland stating Walsh was supposed to have been drowned. A settler named Robinson, who lives at Wangawai Heads, had an exciting experience on Sunday, narrowly escaping drowning. He was pressing the river at high water, jvhen his horse was swept from underneath him and drowned. A man n amed Brupton, who was on the bank, paw Robinson was in difficulties, and swam opt, holding him up for half an hour until a boat was brought to their assistance. They were taken ashore safely, but Robinson was too exhausted to return home that evening. _ / A block of 403 acres, situated at Mount Ropkill, and known, as tho estate of the late j. Mays, has just changed hands, Mr G. Winstone being tho purchaser for £10,120.
