A BREWER FINED. INVERCARGILL, last night. Mr McCarthy, S.M., gave judgment at Core to-day, in the ease against George Whitingham, brewer, for selling beer within the no-license district of Mataura. Defendant’s license was issued after the passage of the statute authorising the carrying 'of no-license, add his Worship held that it was subject to that contingency. Defendant was convicted, and was fined £5 and costs. INFANTICIDE. HOKITIKA, last night. The body of a newly-born male child was found in the river to-day.
