In tho case of Wilfrid Badger, for criminal libel, sentenced to seven mouths’
imprisonment without hard labor from May 7th, application to suspend the sentence till the result of the appeal to tho Privy Council was ascertained was not allowed. The Chief Justico and Mr Justice 'Williams were on the Bench. Thomas Williams and David Burko, recent arrivals from Melbourne, were each sentenced to 12 months to-day for theft of a portmanteau from the hall of a hotel here
Invercargill, last night. The Supremo Court opened to-day bo'ore Judge Dennis*on. There are only threo criminal cases —carnal knowledge, arson, and perjury—und true bills wero found in each. Selina Tobin, for forgery, was sentenced to six months’ imprison- < ment. Having been previously convicted of a similar offence, probation could not bo granted.
