Tho Government are dissatisfied with the result, and Cabinet will consider the position to-day, The leader of the Opposition regards the result as a Government defeat. THE GOVERNMENT RESIGN, By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Reoeived, 4.26 p.m. Sept. 9.) Brisbane, Sept. 9. The Government being dissatisfied with the division uu the new taxation propoaals, which were carried by a majority of only two, a caucus of the Ministerial party was held to-day. Mr Philips announced to the meeting the intention of himsolf and colleagues to resign, and that ho would advise Mr Brown, loader of tho Opposition, to he sent for.

An announcement to that effect will bo made in the House to-night. Received 12.8 a.m., Sept. 10.

In the House Mr Philp announced that tho Government had resigned, and recommended that Mr Browne be sent for. Mr Browne stated that ho had undertaken the task, and was given until Tuesday to form a Ministry. Tho House then adjourned.
