WAIAPU COUNTY COUNCIL.
'(Special to Times.) Waipiro, last night. A meeting of the above Council was held at Waipiro to-day. Present: The Chairman (Cr T. E. Sherwood), and Crs T. S. Williams, E. R. Murphy, and J. Knox. , „ T , The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote approving of the scheme for the expenditure of accrued thirds, and also agreeing to the disposal of thirds for paying interest on the proposed Awatere loan. —Received.
Mr JtL K. Hovell wrote drawing attention to obstructions on a street of Te Araroa township.—Received. Mr Robert McNeill wrote with reference to his Hot Springs and Tuakau contracts, stating that he had carried them out to the best of his ability and according to specifications. Ho asked for payment of work ordered by thb engineer, as he considered it was extra. Regarding the Tuakau contract, ho had been unable to obtain labor. Ho asked to be relieved of both contracts on account of his wife’s illness, and to bo paid a fair amount for the work done. It was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the Chairman and Engineer. HOSPITAL SITE.
The matter of the hospital site was raised, in view of the Bill now before Parliament, constituting Waiapu County a separate hospital district. The clork stated that when Mr Smith was up to set aside a reserve he promised to set aside some sections in the township as a municipal reserve, audit was accordingly marked on the plan. When the plan was issued these reserves were omitted. The SurveyorGeneral was written to, and the Council were referrod to the Inspector-General of Hospitals. Mr Carroll was approached on the subject in November, 1902, but no reply had been received. A longthy discussion took place, members severely criticising the way the district was being treated. MISCELLANEOUS. The Engineer reported that all contracts wore progressing satisfactorily, with the exception of McNoill’s and Mangaoporo. It was decidod to have the footbridge leading to the Waipiro School erected, and the Engineer was instructed to have the work carried out. The next meeting was fixed for October 21st. Payments were passed, including the following:—McCracken £3OO, O’Ryan £IOO, Renata Ngata £231 7s 6d, W. D. Mill £44, Richardson £2O, and sundry small accounts amounting to £9114s 6d.
