Tho debate on the second reading of the State Fire Insurance Bill was continued throughout the afternoon, and again ad> journod. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. The House met at 2.30. THE NEW LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION. Mr Seddon tendered congratulations to Mr Massey upoo his having been selected as leader of the Opposition. He referred to tho respect in which Mr Massey was held by all members of the House, and he believed his election would be conducive to the good conduct of business. v Mr Massey, in returning thanks, said the Opposition were strong enough to make their influence folt. Though they would hit hard, he could promise Govern- I mont there would be no attempt to hit I below the belt. BUSH AND SWAMP LAND BILL. The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Bill was considered in Committee. The House met at 7.30. The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands I Settlement Bill was considered in com- I mittee during the whole evening’s sitting. I No amendment was made in the Bill up I to midnight.
