REPLY TO THE TIMES. MELBOURNE, Sept. 11. The Premier, replying to the London Times’ comments on Australian finance, states that they had men left in the States quite as capable of looking after their own affairs as the men in the Federal Parliament. He announced that it was proposed within a week to submit to Parliament a resolution referring the question of reduction of members to a referendum. OLD ’AGE PENSIONS. MELBOURNE, Sept. 11.
An amending Old Ago Pensions Bill has been introduced into the Assembly. It is intended to remedy a number of abuses, and to make well-to-do children keep their parents. It is expected to save several thousands of pounds by revising the method of paying pensions.
