TWO FIRES.
NARROW ESCAPES. Per Press Association. Timaru, last night. There was a aoublo fire alarm at 5 a.m. to-day. The first firo was discovered at Wakefield’s boarding-house, near the rail way station, where the fire which started in tho kitchen gutted this, and several bedrooms wero much damaged, ono by water. The total loss is estimated at £6OO. The furniture was insured for £225 in tho Alliance. Tho building insurance is not ascertained. A number of boarders were saved by a ladder, but lost their effects, Young men aroused by the bell ringing for tho above fire found a small cottage in Tbeodocia street on fire, and rescued an elderly woman Darned Collins, the only occupant (who was unconscious), and put the fire out with buckets of water. The house was full of smoke, and the woman was rescued only just in time. She was taken to the hospital, and subsequently recovered. Tho cottage was but little damaged.
