SIR JOSEPH WARD.
(Per Press Association.}' *■ Wanganui, last night. Sir Joseph Ward arrived here to-day from Auckland via Taumaranui and the river, going on to Wellington by th 6 mid- * day express. Speaking of his trip down the Wanganui river, hs said it had been a most enjoyable one, and as far as he could see all the arrangements of steamer service were excellent. The houseboat on the river was one of the finest of the kind he had aeen. When needed improvements were effected in the upper end thejriver would become a favor- " ite tourist route of the colony, and tha t river be one of New Zealand’s best assets. Referring to the new time-table fer the Wellington and New Plymouth railway, the statement that the alteration wouid not allow passengers to connect with the southern steamers and trains was incorrect, and tho new service would give through connections both for North and South Island passengers as at present.
