SENSATIONAL EXPERIENCE.
STEAMER STRIKES CORAL REEF Va» Pr«a Association.
Dunedin, last night. While steaming past the Island of Ascension on a voyage to New Zealand, the steamer Kaipara grazed a coral patch at a spot where there is supposed to bo 100 fathoms of water. As thore was no sign of a leak the eteamor came au. A survey was-made to-day by Mr Morrison, marine ourveyor for Lloyds, and A. Walker, iuspoetor of machinery. It was found the vessel had grazed tho coral for about 20 feet amidship. , Boyond the cracking of tho cement lining in the hull for a few feet „ the damage was very trifling.
