Tbe Anglioan Bishop of Auckland (Dr, Neligan) in his charge to the Synod,.dealt.., in a most forcible manner with the”' gambling evil and the effects of the totalisator on the national life. Gambling is an offence against socialism, a contradiction of : democracy, and a sin against the brotherhood.” The Bishop also condemned the facilities provided by the telegraph offioe in connection with race meetings.
