The bank returns for the September quarter show an inoreaso in advances oyer the oorreapondiog quarter of 1904 of <£?94,984, tho figures being <613,258,890 and 4112,463,933. The Duion Bank is responsible for nearly half the Inorease.. Disoounts show an expansion of £776,917 more than before, half being. Union Bank. There is a moderate inorease of free deposits and a substantial inorease of fixed deposits (£543,585), tbe principal increases being Union Bank £194,457, Bank of New Zealand £172,871. There is a slight shrinkage in note circulation, and an expansion in the metal reserve.
