AN EXPLANATION
(To the Editor Gishornc Times,) Sir,—As secretary o( «bo Farmers’ Union I should liko to point out that the deductions of somo mombora of the Gig borne JBranoh, as reported In your issue of this morning, wore absolutely incorroot. They aootn to infer that I was endeavouring to suppress the Colonial Executive’s
loiter covering the questions to candidates, and thereby appear to bavo deliberately attempted to mislead the other members, I would point out that tha Gisborne Branoh was not entitled Co deal, with the Provincial Executive's correspondence before it had been dealt with by the latter body itself, but out of oourlesy to the Branoh I forwarded the questions immediately after tbo president had perused the letter, although it was only necessary for me to have intimated that the quoations had arrived so that it might call the moetlng of delegates. Mr Bell will bear me out that I was quite willing to allow him to read the loiter, but declined to allow it to leave my office.—l am, etc., I W. LISBANT CLAYTON. Gisborne, Ootobcr 23rd, 1905.
