Beferring to the report In the House, Mr Oarruthers elated that tho sum of £SOOO voted, instead of being distributed among 160 applicants, was distributed among 81. The report showed that not one penny would havo boon voted and not ono penny distributed but that the £SOOO was obtained largely, or almost wholly, by the influenoe of two ox-mem-bers of Parliament, John Haynes and E. M. Clarke. Those who got the £SOOO subscribed £2OO for presentation to the members mentioned, and altogether they got £6OO.
