WELLINGTON NEWS.
[(Per, Press Association.) Wellington, last night. Appeals by various members of the Manawatu Rugby Union’s representatives against their disqualification were not upheld by the Rugby UnioD. It was deoided to-request the Manawatu Union to make farther inquiry into the conduct of other players. / • '■ ■ ■ ' The Premier delivered an address at Shannon last night. It is a township in the Manawatu electorate,. and close to Otaki, and Mr Seddoh's speeoh was largely devoted to criticising the Opposition candidates for the two'districts'. He saiu the Opposition leader thought wages were too high, and that was u feeling which dominated the classes. Under the present Government wages had increased 30 per cent. If an industry could not stand paying good wages it could be carried on in some other country. A’ cordial vote of ' thanks and confidence in the Government was accompanied by oheers for the; Premier and Mr Stevens, the Government I candidate for Manawatu.' The statement that the Government has 1 decided to commute Lionel Terry’s sec.-; tonoe for the Haining street murder to I imprisonment for life is not correct. What ] Ministers have done is to make a recommendation to that effect to the Governor. The boy Hugheß, who esoaped from the Terraoe Gaol four days ago, and who was | recaptured last night, was'eaulioned and 1 ordered to return to prison. <
