A NARROW ESCAPE

“A two-storeyed house of 11 rooms, owned by William A. Day, grain merchant, and ocoupied by Dr. Win. Audorson, was destroyed by firo this morning. An outbroak occurred in a wash-house attached to tho main building, and tho flames wore rapidly sproad by tho southwest wind, the building being ruinofl. Tho house was insured for 411600 in tho National Ofiioo, and tho oontents for £7OO in tho New Zealand Office. Tho damage to tho building is estimated at £IOOO. Tho loss on contents is eorious, only tbo piano, soma furnituro from the front rooms, and a few books being saved. Dunedin, last night.
A largo two storeyed building at tho cornor of George and Hanovir streets, belonging to tho Haonan estate, was completely gutted yesterday morning. Tho building was insured for £SOO, and tho building was iusured for £SOO, and tbo effects of Patrick Oricohley, who oarried on business as fishmonger, fotf£2oo. H. Gallaud, a boarder, had a narrow eecapo, Ho had to drop from an upstsics window, a distanoo of niuo feet, burning his hands and getting his foot out', necessitating his removal to the hospital. P. insurances are £2OO on the oontents in the Manchester, and £SOO in tho buildings in the Royal, rc-iusured for £250 in tho Yorkshire.
