Napier, )a*t night.

Io the imtch just finished Poverty Bay showed up bettor tba 1 was expected, and s wed the inning? defeat by a fine effort. To-day, Turkiugton bowled throughout Napier’s first inuiog*, and took five wicktt* for 99 runs. His bowling was much bet .er iha,u is was in Auckland, and , improved local players, Sharp w.-sthe hero of the matoh. He batted confidently and made some splendid outs. Robinson received a na3»y emaok on the bridge of the nose behind thß wickets, and had to be relieved. Gibson played with bis usual care, and made soma nice strokes. Sheridan proved very useful with the bat and ball, and fielded well. Napier bad five down for 62 on Monday, but a determined effort by tbe middle division carried the score to 251. The Gisborne players kept at it vory well, the only bad mistake being dropping Hawko first balh When tbe visitors batt;d they were not at home on the last wioket. The older bunds, however, kept the flag flying, and tbo score was fair, In tbe second vehturo things went much better, and most batsmen got double figures. H*avy rain to-day at luncheon time delayed ihe afjt3rnoon start an hour, and the wicket became difficult. Tho innings closed for 173 runs and Napier got the 39 required for the fist of three wicktt3. The innings .wa? concluded for 117. Sheridan took four wickets, Gibson two, Daviia two, and TorkiDgtbn one.
