GALATEA DISPUTE
(Per Press Association.) Auckland, last nigh
In dismissing the natives concerned in the Galatea land case, in which the Grand Jury returned a no bill, Mr Justioe Edwards pointed out that this did not give the natives the right to. remain on the land. It was not an offence to remaia on land passively ; it was, however, an offence to remain there under suoh circumstances as would lead to a reasonable belief that they intended to resist removal by force. They must give up possession of the land in question. He gave this judgment against them with very great reluctance, but tho law must be obeyed. He had no hesitation in saying, and with a full sense of his responsibility, that their ease was one which, if possible, Bhould be relieved.
