(Per Press Association.) Wellington, last night. Tho Admiralty’s insistence on certain conditions with rfgard to tho upkeep and insurance of the training ship Sparrow has led lo a sirioas hitch, and tho oomnrssioniog of her has beoa indefinitely postponed.
Tho Premier in his speech at Ngapara said he had been advocating tho training of men for the Navy in the colony. The Government, he said, had ttisd to do something in that matter, but how wore they met ? Tha got from tho British Government the gunboat Spirrow for training purposes. It was an out of data v. s,e! for fighting purpose, but sufficiently serviceable for training purposes. Tho Admiralty, howevtr, wanted all sorts cf conditions'to be observe!, Thoy wantod the vessel to be insured aud to be inspected annually, and indeed so many conditions were imp;scd that the answer of the Gove nmcnt'was this : We are cot prepared to insure her or to comply with your condition-, and qiloss you doal with qs in bet or t.-rms yon may take the Sparrow- That was the way they wore me l ,
