[A great deal of so called “ Scotch ” whisky sold on tho Continent is in reality cheap potato spirit, made and bottled in Hamburg. There is no y a nourishing opon market in that city, whoro ornpty whisky bottles, with tho labels intact, and bearing well known names, aro bought at from -id to lid each to bo refilled. ] Richard Humphroy, the cricketer, was found dead in the Thames. An opon verdict was returned. Nora Long, a New Zealander, gave a successful piano recital at Bechstoin Hall. Favorable criticisms on her playing have been mado. Mr A squitli, assured a deputation that tho municipal authorities’ demand for taxation on site values was founded on common sense and equity. Tho Government would be better able to produce a satisfactory measure if it took time to consider tho problem. Tho Court oi Appeal allowed an appeal against the verdict of a jury, and Mr Justice Darling’s judgment, giving Ward, Look, and Co. damages against tbo Operative Printers Assistants’ Society for inducing a woikman to break his contract of service, and causing a nuisance by picketing. The case arose through the company refusing to employ Unionists. At the inquest on tho body of Sydney Mac A lister Sharwood, brother to Mrs Stephen Fairburn, tho evidence showed thus ho died in a London boarding house of fatty degeneration of the heart, which was due to pernicious anaemia, and that deceased as well as tho paople with whom he was boarding were believers in Christian Scientist treatment. The jury expressed regret that a doctor was not summoned to attend Sharwood during his final illnoss.
