Mr M. F. Bourke's newly erected flax soutohing works at Port Aburiri took firo last evening, damage to iho extent of £l5O being done before tho flames were suppressed. - The outbreak is attributed to over-heated' bearings. The loss is oovered by insurance in tbo New Zealand, Manchester, and Guardian offioes.
’ Marton, last n'ght. A twelve-roomed dwelling, owned by Thomas Ward, and oooupied by R. Moot 6 and Miss Tennant, as a private, girls’ school, wbb totally doalroyed by fire early this morning. Moore's furniture was to havo been sell by auction to-day. His insurance, including the piano, was £350 in the Sun offioe. The building was insured for £3OO- in tbo Standard ofliop. Miss Tennant had no iosuranop on the sohool books and requisites. The origin of tho fire is unknown.
