At tho Inst meeting of the Milton brunch of tho li’nrmors’ Union, tho Prosidont (Mr Neil McArthur) brought up n matter which, lio said, had appealed to him heforo the Union cmno into oxistonce. That was the advisability of tho Government granting free passos on the ■railway to thoso who were compelled to go to tho Hospital as tho result of an accident. This particularly applied to tho poorer classes, although, ho said, all of thorn were really members of tho working community— but it wits ns applied to tho workers that he was struck with tho idea. Ho thought if tho Government wore approached and wore agrecablo to carry out tho suggestion, it would bo conferring a great favor upon that class. In tho interests of suffering humanity it should be dono. It is the practice of a lady in a small provincial town (says a New Zealand Exchange) to have a nap each day after tho mid-day meal. The other day, instead of retiring to her room, as is the usual custom, she wont into the drawingroom, first instructing tho maid that she was “ not at home ” to callers. Very soon a ring came at the door-boll, and the maid, upon answering, found it to bo a piano-tuner, who had come to tune tho piano. The maid, thinking that her mistress was upstairs, ushered him into tho drawing-room where the piano stood. The lady, who was to a certain extent on deshabilio, woke up in time to hear him outsido tho door, and made a quick dart under tho table. Imagine tho poor lady’s feelings, as she had to stay in that cramped position for an hour or so whilst tho tuner, a'l unconscious, of his audience, went through his tedious business. The lady has not napped in the drawing-room since
