The rumor that the Prince and Princess of Wales will make a short pleasure trip to Egypt this winter is likely to make North Africa even moro fashionable than it has lately become. It is just 39 years ago that our present King and Queen made a memorable sojourn in Cairo, and a still more memorable journey up the Nile in a daliabeali named the Alexandra. The Heir Apparent and his consort wore accompanied by a number of friends, including the then Duke of Sutherland, who also brought a party. Quo serious misadventure befell the Itoyal travellers. Their dahnboah caught fire, owing to a lighted candle having been left too near a curtain in Prince Louis of Battenborg’s cabin. The then Prince of Wales saw the reflection from another boat on which he was spending the evening, and hurrying on board lie rescued the Princess and her lady-in-waiting. It was in Egypt that the future King of Sweden wooed and won Princess Margaret of Connaught. Royal personages are fond of meeting each other in informal tourist fashion and when a matrimonial alliance is in contemplation it is far more agreeable for the young people to come, across one another when travelling than in any other way. Princess Henry of Hattenberg is particularly fond of the desert, and her young son, Prince Leopold, generally spends a portion of each winter at Assouan. ANXIOUS MOMENTS.
