It tends also to deepen the sense of duty to the suffermg, teaches charity, and awakens sympathy—that is, if one looks to the theatre for more than mere amusement. Geo. It. Sims and Arthur Shirley, in writing this play, have given us a drama of absorbing -interest. It is logical and entertaining, and considering the tendency to milk and water fare, this type of drama is welcome. To enter into the details of the plot, which is so well known, would serve no good purpose, It will suffice to recount the manner of its pourtrayal. In the role. of. Dick, Miss Beatrice Holloway gives so natural an interpretation that the ; onlooker is constrained to - think that he is witnessing a chapter from real life history. It is one of the most pathetic creations it is possiblo to conceive, and not a detail of the complex part is deficient. .
