A North Taranaki farmer with several hundred acres of good land, totally unencumbered, who has occupied the same farm for tho last quarter of a century, tolls his neighbors that ho has not yot found time to gravel tho approach to his house, which is in the same state as it was when he won tho farm from nature. In wot weather tho path is almost unnegotiablo. Yot inside the home of this particular farmer will bo found an 80 guinea Broadwood piano. Tho two cases of English grasses presented to the Manawatu A. and P. Association by Mr W. J. Birch, who is now at Home, have come to hand (tho Manawatu Standard reports). One caso contains 24 verities of grasses useless in agriculture and found in bad hay and jjastures, while tho other has a similar number of useful sorts. The mounting of tho specimens is excellent. Each is labelled with its generic and com•mon names, information being also given of its habits of growth and the class of soil in which it is found. Tho useful varieties are more fully described, tho different purposes for which they are grown being clearly set out.
