The opening heats of the Gisborne Rowing Club’s Cederwall fours worn rowed over the Waiinnta course last evening, when Buscke beat I iijlett, and Kershaw defeated Bayly. I'rmn a spectator’s jioinfc of view, tlie first race was decidedly disappointing. From the start, Buscke shot ahead, and increasing his advantage by several lengths, passed the post paddling. The race between Kprabaw and Bayly was a more cveii go- I rom an even start, Kershaw gradually forged to the front, and at the Kaiti bridge had a bare length to the good. This advantage was maintained to the finish . Mr W. Hackott gave every satisfaction os starter, and Mr J \\ aucliop acted as judge.
